Our Hero
You’ve heard the name.
He is known about the streets of the Boroughs. It whips its way through the narrows and shakes the rafters. Every pub and dive boast’s their own sign telling patrons where he sat when he came in for a drink, accompanied by stories about how a long time back, when old what’s-his-name ran the place. He sat down at the table in the corner and ordered his trademark birch beer. Captain Samuel James Thatch did not always have this sort of reputation.
No. Long before his airship set out to cross the ocean, there was a young man that owned a little shop in Manhattan called S.J. the tinker.
The Civil War had passed, and, other than some memories, the people were getting used to life like it used to be. That is, until the powers that be uptown had decided they would no longer endure the riff-raff in their backyard. Their mission was to take down the Five Points by the turn of the century, and that meant their world would be stirred up again.
S.J. made a living repairing equipment, but his heart was in creating contraptions and his head flew through the clouds on the great airships. A dreamer of dreams — he imagined the Points with reasonable housing for all. A place where men and women could walk the streets at night without fear of nefarious intent. He imagined a tool that could make it happen. Little did he know that another of his creations would spiral him into a world covered in shadow.
This is his story. Come along to see the transformation of a small time tinker to a leader of men.
